MANILA, Philippines—In preparation for the K to 12 program, the Quezon City Council called on the Department of Education (DepEd) to build additional classrooms in various schools of the city.
In a resolution recently adopted by the city council, Education Secretary Armin Luistro was asked to include the construction of additional classrooms in Quezon City in the department’s 2015 Basic Education Facilities Fund.
“The implementation of the K to 12 Basic Education Program and the rapid growth in the number of enrollees in primary levels have created a shortage of school classrooms in various public schools in District 6 of Quezon City,” said the resolution introduced by Councilor Melencio “Bobby” Castelo Jr.
Castelo cited Culiat High School, New Era High School and Sauyo High School.
Similarly, Councilor Precious Hipolito Castelo filed resolutions requesting DepEd for new school buildings.
The pending resolutions separately asked school buildings for the following: President Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School in Barangay Batasan Hills; Commonwealth High School in Barangay Commonwealth; Bagong Silangan Elementary School in Barangay Silangan; Payatas B Annex Elementary School and Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma High School in Barangay Payatas; Doña Juana Elementary School, Judge Feliciano Belmonte Senior High School and Holy Spirit National High School in Barangay Holy Spirit.
