DIGOS CITY—Special children from Ramon Magsaysay Central Elementary School (RMCES) here will now be able to play games any time they want.
On Monday, the Davao del Sur provincial police office (DSPPO) turned over sports equipment, including a badminton table, for their use.
“We didn’t have sports equipment just for them until now,” special education teacher Richie Solis said.
Because of their conditions, the special children at RMCES rarely played with their schoolmates, other teachers said.
Senior Supt. Michael John Dubria, provincial police chief, said the needs of special children were among the priority projects the provincial police office had adopted under its community outreach program.
Dubria said special children became one of the priorities of the provincial police office because they were the ones receiving less attention.
He said he was hoping that the sports equipment police had donated would help the special children nurture their social relations, aside from helping them to be physically fit.
Aside from providing them sports equipment, Dubria said the provincial police office would also regularly conduct feeding activities for the special children.
He also announced that police would be spending for the construction of a canopy inside the RMCES special education area to provide shade to the children while they play.
Dubria also pledged to provide police visibility inside the school to thwart unscrupulous persons from taking advantage of innocent children. Eldie Aguirre, Inquirer Mindanao
