MANILA, Philippines- Amid calls for its officials to undergo a lifestyle check, the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said it would adhere to a “top to bottom lifestyle check” among all its personnel.

The PNP said this is for the interest of “transparency and accountability” and as part of the anti-corruption effort in the police force.

“This serves as an opportunity to protect the good name of the organization by eliminating suspicions or speculations of alleges ill-gotten wealth or involvement in criminal activities,” the PNP said in a statement.

It said procedures were still being crafted by the technical working group of the National Police Commission (Napolcom) and the PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS) to ensure “objectivity.”

The PNP said those with “star rank” would be the first to undergo the lifestyle check.

Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II has earlier ordered a lifestyle check in the PNP after some of its officials were involved in criminal activities.
