Marikina City placed under state of calamity due to ‘Mario’

MANILA, Philippines—Marikina City has been placed under state of calamity Friday afternoon amid heavy rains and flooding brought by tropical storm “Mario” (international name: Fung-Wong), according to Mayor Del De Guzman.

In a radio report, De Guzman explained that the declaration stemmed from the flooding in eight barangays (villages) in the city.

He also said that forced evacuation was imposed in these villages.

Meanwhile, classes in all levels in Marikina City for Saturday, Sept. 20, have been suspended, the Marikina City government announced through social media.
