LOS BAÑOS, Laguna—The provincial government of Rizal has resorted to preemptive evacuation of certain communities Friday as floods threatened residents living in the low-lying areas.
Vicente Tomazar, regional director of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) said the government-enforced evacuation continued since early Friday in the villages of Banaba and Guitnang Bayan 1 and 2 in San Mateo, Rizal.
The number of evacuees, however, could not be ascertained as of the moment.
In Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) 200 people were evacuated late Thursday night as floodwaters rose to chest-high in the villages of Poblacion and Malpalon in Calintaan and in the villages of Calawag and Sibalat in Magsaysay, all in Occidental Mindoro.
Operations at Cawit port in Boac, Marinduque, have been suspended since 6 a.m. Friday, according to the regional disaster office.
