CEBU CITY—At least 100 families were displaced when fire struck a densely populated urban poor village in the city on Wednesday.

The fire destroyed at least 50 houses made of light materials in Purok 8, Sitio Little Pasil, Barangay (village) Camputhaw.

Narrow roads leading to the fire scene made it difficult for fire trucks to get near the area.

Village Councilor Lorenzo Basamot said the fire started from the house of Orland Mendoza.

Mendoza, according to Basamot, is known in the village as someone hooked on drugs. Mendoza, Basamot said, “has problems with his family and has long warned that he will burn their house down.”
