Webmasters rout Panthers to stay unbeaten

/ 06:57 AM September 23, 2011

THERE WERE no tense moments this time around as the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters showed their dominance in defeating the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers, 84-63, in the seniors division of the 2011 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

Unlike their last two matches wherein they were made to pull a rabbit out of a hat in the game’s final moments to clinch the victories, the Webmasters did not wait long to impose themselves as they took a 41-36 lead at the turn after trailing, 15-21, after the first period.

Then, with 6-foot-10 giant Junemar Fajardo throwing his weight around to the tune of 25 markers, UC was able to take a 61-47 lead heading to the final canto, a lead which would not be threatened until the final buzzer.

Wingmen Luigi Bercede and Robinson Mohammad were also able to play their respective roles with 14 points each as the Webmasters improved their unbeaten mark to 9-0 (win-loss). USPF, which was led by the 15 of Jam Ferraren, fell to 4-5.

FEATURED STORIES

USPF’s Randy Avila had 11 while Fritz Dajalos was held down to just 10 markers.

It was also a double black-eye day for USPF as their junior counterparts were ambushed by the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Wildkittens, 69-77.

The victory gave CIT-U a shimmer of hope for the next round as they pushed their standing to 5-6 while USPF dropped to 7-4. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
