MANILA, Philippines–Tropical depression “Luis” is expected to bring rain to the country over the weekend, the state weather bureau said.
Luis entered the Philippine area of responsibility early Friday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
It was last observed 1,050 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes, and has not affected the country so far. It has maximum winds of 45 kilometers per hour and is forecast to move west northwest 30 kph.
“Visayas, Mindanao and Bicol Region will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening,” Pagasa said.
Luis has also the possibility to intensify and make landfall on Sunday morning in northern Luzon, said Pagasa forecaster Leny Ruiz.
In Metro Manila, rains are expected Saturday afternoon due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat.
“Moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the southwest to west will prevail over southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to occasionally rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from southwest to south with slight to moderate seas,” Pagasa said.
