Did you know: Natividad Almeda-Lopez
Today, Sept. 8, is the 122nd birth anniversary of pioneering woman lawyer, presiding judge and suffragist Natividad Almeda-Lopez. Born in Manila in 1892, she was the first woman to serve as associate justice of the Court of Appeals when she was appointed by then President Carlos P. Garcia in 1961. She received the presidential award in 1955, 1966 and 1968 for her contributions to the women’s suffrage movement. She died on Jan. 23, 1977.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
