Chief Inspector Von June Nuyda, Pagbilao police chief, said a Raymond Transport bus was traversing the road at 3:10 a.m. when it plunged into the deep gorge on the right side of the road in Sitio Upper Sapinit in Barangay Silangang Malicboy.
Two passengers died on the spot, both male and were yet to be identified, Nuyda said.
In a report by DZMM, another unidentified passenger died in the hospital.
“The ravine is more or less 100 feet deep. We’re still investigating the cause of the accident,” Nuyda said over the phone.
Nuyda said the accident was reported to the police station by members of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team who were in the area.
Police and other rescue groups rushed to the accident site to help the victims and brought them to Quezon Medical Center and other nearest hospitals in Pagbilao.
Nuyda said the bus was carrying 43 passengers including its driver and conductor.
Last May, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) suspended the operations of Raymond Transport’s five units after one of them figured in another road accident in Quezon that killed two of its passengers and injured five others.
The suspended buses were plying the Caramoan, Camarines Sur–Cubao, Quezon City route.
Nuyda said they will investigate if the suspension order has been lifted.
