MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday belied reports that its “one truck-lane policy” was to blame for the heavy traffic at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX).

“The cause of traffic is not the one truck-lane policy. The traffic in A. Bonifacio (Manila) is because of the trucks going to the Philippine Ports Authority that is already congested due to limited open gates,” Tolentino said.

“The one truck-lane policy is only implemented in C-5. That’s 20 kilometers away,” he added.

In a television interview, Tolentino said delays in the processing of trucks entering the port of Manila could also be behind traffic congestion.

He said the NLEX management has apologized for the misinformation.

On Friday, the NLEX management said the one truck-lane policy of the MMDA and in Manila was to blame.

It, however, retracted its statement.

On Friday, motorists were experiencing a nine-kilometer long traffic along the Nlex going to Manila due to the volume of trucks going to the Philippine Ports Authority.
