Former Ilocos Norte Vice Governor Nalupta passes away

BATAC CITY, Ilocos Norte-—Former Ilocos Norte Vice Governor Mariano Nalupta Jr. died after a heart attack at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City on Tuesday, the family announced here. He was 69.

Nalupta, a former president of the Ilocos Norte chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, served as representative of the province’s second district in the House of Representatives from 1988 to 1992 and served three terms as vice governor from 1992 to 2001.

Nalupta is survived by wife Elena Marders-Nalupta, a former board member and former mayor of Batac, and their four children — Batac Vice Mayor Ronald Allan Nalupta; Myra Nalupta-Barba, presiding judge of Municipal Trial Court and Cities-Branch 1 in Laoag City; lawyer Richard Alvin Nalupta, former National Youth Commissioner; and Mariano Francisco Nalupta III, chair of Barangay 2 Ablan in Batac.

In a radio interview here, Nalupta’s daughter, Myra, said the family plans to put up a foundation in honor of her father.

“Even in death, his public service will continue,” she said.
