Bohol market hit by grenade blast, 2 killed
CEBU CITY–Two people died and at least 12 others were injured in a grenade explosion inside a public market in Trinidad town, Bohol province, some 95 kilometers from capital Tagbilaran City on Monday afternoon.
Supt. Joie Yape, spokesman of the Bohol PNP, in a text message to the Inquirer, said one of the two fatalities died on the spot after a hand grenade was thrown by a certain Dinoberto Fuentes at around 4.30 p.m.
Fuentes, a resident of Purok 7, Barangay (village) San Vicente, was arrested by residents.
Yape said the man who died on the spot was identified as Nestor Bernales, a resident of Mabini town. The other victim, identified as Fidela Cajes Macua, a vendor and resident of Bien Unido town, died upon arrival at the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital in Talibon town.
Senior Insp. Aldrin Villacampa, police chief of Trinidad, said they were still determining what type of grenade was used in the incident.
Villacampa said there is also an ongoing investigation and questioning of Fuentes to determine the motive for exploding the grenade.
Article continues after this advertisementA police source, who requested anonymity, alleged that Fuentes was drunk. The source also claimed that packs of shabu and marijuana were found to be in Fuentes’ possession.
