MANILA, Philippines – The Senate blue ribbon committee is planning to call Vice President Jejomar Binay to appear before its investigation into the controversial Makati City Hall 2 building.
Binay was the mayor of Makati when the construction of the alleged anomalous project started in 2007.
“May hearing kami sa Sept. 4, dun na lang namin pag-uusapan kasi medyo full pa yung witnesses’ list natin, magpe-present pa Hilmarcs and then si Vice Mayor Mercado, ang COA nandun pa,” Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, who presides over the sub-blue ribbon committee’s investigation on the controversy, said in an interview on Wednesday.
“By September 4 siguro, I will issue a letter-invitation to the Vice President to attend the next hearing,” Pimentel said.
Binay, in a press conference early Wednesday, refused to say whether he would face the Senate probe, saying he has not yet received an invitation from the committee.
Binay has repeatedly denied that the project was overpriced.
