Robbery, homicide suspect shot dead while resisting arrest by cops in Davao Sur
MATANAO, Philippines — A 37-year-old man wanted for robbery and homicide was killed when he resisted arrest and engaged police officers in a shootout in Barangay (village) Kauswagan here.
Senior Inspector Elmer Cabuslay, town police chief, said operatives of the local police force were serving an arrest warrant against Edgar Marimon Uyanguren, listed as the second most wanted criminal here, on Tuesday, but instead of yielding, the suspect fired at them using a .38 revolver.
“We have been trying to locate him since January 2010 and when we finally did, he wouldn’t give up and engaged our troops in a shootout instead,” Cabuslay said.
He said Uyanguren was fatally hit in the abdomen and died at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City.
Senior Supt. Michael John Dubria, Davao del Sur police director, said he had ordered a deeper probe of the fatal clash to determine if the policemen violated procedures.
