Gov’t determined to create ‘decent jobs’ – Palace

MANILA, Philippines – Amid a new survey showing that jobless Filipinos increased by 300,000, Malacañang on Monday said that the government is determined to create “decent jobs” for the people.

“Patuloy na sinisikap ng pamahalaan na lumikha ng maraming trabaho, at hindi lamang trabaho pero ‘yung tinatawag ng DOLE na disenteng trabaho,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said during a media interview in Malacañang, the transcript of which was made available to the public.

(The government continues to strive to create more jobs, and not just jobs but what the Department of Labor and Employment calls decent jobs.)

He said they aim to create “highly remunerative jobs” that will result in higher income and better working conditions. It should also be able to showcase the talents and ingenuity of Filipino workers.

Coloma also said the current unemployment rate is still within the target of the Philippine Development Plan as the government pushes for more jobs and lower incidence of poverty.

According to the Social Weather Stations, joblessness in the country increased from 25.7 percent in March to 25.9 percent in June. Meanwhile, net optimism on job availability dropped to +3 from +13. More people said they expect fewer jobs in the next 12 months while less people said there would be more jobs.
