Round-the-clock security to be provided to Palparan

'The Butcher' falls

MANILA, Philippines—With a high-profile detainee as retired Major General Jovito Palparan, the National Bureau of Investigation said that a 24-hour security would be given to the captured fugitive.

Attorney Rommel Vallejo, NBI Anti Organized Crime Chief, said they agreed to provide a round-the-clock security for Palparan who was arrested Tuesday early morning in Santa Mesa.

General Gregorio Pio Catapang, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Major General Eduardo Año, Intelligence Services of the AFP Chief, Vallejo and members of the NBI and military met Tuesday afternoon to discuss the security precautions for Palparan.

“He should be guarded, no one is allowed near him except his lawyers and his nearest kin,” Vallejo said. “Those were the instructions given to us.

Año said the Philippine National Police would beef up the security that the NBI would give.

Also, Año said that it could be possible to transfer Palparan to the custody of the AFP depending on the situation and what the Malolos Regional Trial Court decides upon.

“We have talked about it, but that would be on extreme cases,” Año said. “For now it is the decision of the judge on where he would be detained.”

It was the Malolos RTC who issued the arrest warrant of Palparan.

Año added they would investigate the alleged coddlers of Palparan who helped him hide in Sta. Mesa.

Palparan hid for three months in a house that a certain Grace Roa, a family friend of the Palparans, owned.
