‘Instill business values to children’

A children’s learning center in Cebu City sponsored a seminar on instilling entrepreneurial values of saving and investing money in profit-making ventures in the young over the weekend.

Childlink Learning Center in cooperation with Vibal Publishing House, Inc. held the seminar dubbed “Eight Simple Secrets to Raising Entrepreneurs” at the Sacred Heart Center in Cebu City.

The event’s theme was taken from a book of the same title authored by Mary Joy Canon-Abaquin in cooperation with the “Go Negosyo” group.

In her speech, Abaquin called on parents to train their child on money-handling and spending.

“The value of money lies in how we value money,” she said.

Abaquin said the government should help encourage parents to develop entrepreneurial values in their children since entrepreneurship contributes to national development through livelihood.

She said her book also talks about getting students to find their strengths in business and having parents play an active role in encouraging and honing their entrepreneurial skills.

Abaquin graduated magna cum laude in Psychology at the University of the Philippines and founded the Multiple Intelligence International School in Quezon City.

“Entrepreneurship is not just about making money, entrepreneurship is about making change in people’s lives,” Abaquin said.
