New opening of classes in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY—Students from outlying provinces began commuting to the summer capital this weekend for the city’s second school opening this year.

Baguio is one of the major cities with schools that opted to shift their school calendars to match the academic calendars followed by the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Saint Louis University (SLU) and the University of Baguio  started classes yesterday. Classes at SLU’s Laboratory Elementary School were scheduled to begin yesterday (Grades 4 to 6) and today (kindergarten to Grade 3). Its high school opened last week.

The University of the Philippines Baguio will start classes today.

The three universities, along with their respective elementary and high schools, represent a big chunk of the city’s student population. SLU alone has more than 34,000 students in its system, from elementary to college. Vincent Cabreza, Inquirer Northern Luzon
