Aquino admin satisfaction rating all-time low

MANILA, Philippines – The satisfaction rating of President Benigno Aquino III’s administration was at its all-time low in June 2014, the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.

The survey conducted from June 27 to 30 this year, among 1,200 respondents, showed a 16-percentage drop, from +45 in March 2014 to only +29 in June 2014, in the net satisfaction rating of the Aquino government.

It was the biggest drop since March 2011.

It was also the first time that the administration received a “moderate” net satisfaction rating.

SWS categorizes its ratings through the following terms: +70 and above, “excellent;” +50 to +69, “very good;” +30 to +49, “good;” +10 to +29, “moderate;” +9 to -9, “neutral;” -10 to -29, “poor;” -30 to -49, “bad;” -50 to -69, “very bad;” -70 and below, “execrable.”

Of those interviewed, 56 percent said they were satisfied with the performance of the government. However, almost half of that – 26 percent – said they were dissatisfied. Another 18 percent said they were undecided, resulting in a “moderate” net satisfaction rating of +29.

Of the issues surveyed, the administration rated higher or “good” for protecting the environment, providing enough supply of electricity, defending the country’s territorial rights, promoting the welfare of overseas workers, foreign relations and helping the poor.

It received “moderate” ratings for the following issues: reconciliation with Muslim rebels, fighting terrorism, providing jobs, reconciliation with Communist rebels, fighting crimes, tax collection and eradicating graft and corruption.

On the other hand, people were “neutral” (-9) on whether the Aquino administration was able to ensure that no family will be hungry.

More people were also dissatisfied with how it addressed inflation (-18) and ensure that oil films don’t take advantage of oil prices (-9).

A majority remain dissatisfied with how the Maguindanao massacre case was being resolved, garnering the administration a “bad” satisfaction rating of -44.
