Grade school teacher in Zamboanga City nabbed in buy-bust operation
MANILA, Philippines—A grade-school teacher was arrested in a buy-bust operation by members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Tuesday in Zamboanga City, PDEA Director General Undersecretary Jose Gutierrez Jr. said Wednesday.
The suspect identified as Raul Ledesma Miang, alias “Anggo”, 50, a private school teacher was nabbed near a lotto outlet in Baliwasan Moret, Zamboanga City. Prior to his arrest, he had been included on the PDEA Regional watch list, said Gutierrez.
A plastic sachet of shabu was seized from Miang during the operation.
“It is very disturbing that a teacher, who should serve as role model for our youth, has been corrupted by illegal drugs. Teachers should be part of the solution to the drug problem not the abetting problem,” said Gutierrez.
Charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, have been filed in court against Miang, Gutierrez added.
