Lawyers for the Ampatuans in the Maguindanao Massacre case withdraw

MANILA, Philippines–Lawyers of the Ampatuans, main suspects in the Maguindanao massacre case, have resigned.

In their separate notice of withdrawals, Sigfrid Fortun of the Fortun, Narvasa, Salazar, Andres Manuel of the Manuel Law Office and Paris Real, Emmanuel Brotarlo and Sherwin Real of the Real, Brotarlo and Real Law office informed the Quezon City regional trial court Branch 221 to send copies of the decision, orders, resolutions and other processes to Camp Bagong Diwa, where their former clients are detained.

The three law firms represent 24 of the accused, including Andal Ampatuan Sr., Andal Ampatuan Jr., Sajid Islam Ampatuan, Anwar Ampatuan, Akmad Ampatuan Sr., Anwar Ampatuan Jr, Sajid Anwar Ampatuan, Mohades Ampatuan and Misuari Ampatuan.

No reason was cited in their notice of withdrawals.
