MANILA, Philippines—The National Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday said they are still looking for more evidence to determine if Davidson Bangayan aka David Tan can be slapped with a case for rice smuggling.

“With regard to Davidson Bangayan’s (Tan) alleged involvement in smuggling of rice based on his admission that he was in rice trading and importation is still insufficient for purposes of filing criminal complaint penalized under the Tariff and Customs Code,” NBI Director Virgilio Mendez said in the memorandum to Justice Secretary Leila De Lima.

The NBI said they still need to secure documents from the Bureau of Customs on entry of imported rice using 2012 import permits issued by the National Food Authority as well as bills of lading, cargo manifests and more.
