MANILA, Philippines — Floods in parts of Bataan receded on Wednesday as monsoon rains induced by Typhoon “Jose” (Halong) abated, a disaster official said.

Tess Señora, officer of Bataan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said in an interview aired on Radyo Inquirer 990AM that although waters in village of Almacen in Hermosa town were still up to three feet, the rest of the roads were passable.

A report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said several villages in the towns of Hermosa and Mariveles were submerged in water, prompting school officials to suspend classes on Monday and Tuesday.

“As of now there are only scattered rainshowers unlike yesterday (Tuesday) it was a heavy and continuous downpour,” Señora said. As of Wednesday morning, Typhoon Jose has weakened while on its way to Japan.
