Gigi Reyes’ plea for Camp Crame stay denied with finality
MANILA, Philippines–The Sandiganbayan Third Division on Tuesday denied with finality the attempt of Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Reyes, Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile’s former chief of staff and coaccused in the plunder case he is facing, to be detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center at Camp Crame, Quezon City.
In throwing out Reyes’ petition, the court said her claim that her life was in danger because of the nine suspected communist rebels detained with her was “subjective and not objective.”
“In other words, only her thoughts put fear on her. Her fear is subjective and not objective, because it is not inspired by any threats, either acts, spoken words, or gestures,” the court said in its ruling signed by Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, chair of the division, and Associate Justices Laex Quiroz and Samuel Martires.
“Indeed, fright must be due to some act of another person and not arise from a mere temperamental timidity of the person who claims fright,” it said.
Dennis Pulma, the division’s clerk of court, said Reyes was barred from appealing the court’s decision since she already filed a motion for consideration.–Marlon Ramos
