Pagasa: Heavy rains to persist in Metro Manila, nearby areas

MANILA, Philippines—The weather bureau on Tuesday afternoon kept the yellow rainfall alert over the National Capital Region, with heavy rains expected to persist in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

In its heavy rainfall warning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that due to the southwest monsoon (Habagat), Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, and Zambales are placed under the rainfall warning as of 3:30 p.m., with rains expected to continue pouring for next three hours.

Pagasa warns of flooding in the low-lying places in the affected areas.

In a separate bulletin, Pagasa said that Typhoon “Jose” (international name: Halong) has continued its path toward the northern regions of the Philippine Area of Responsibility and at 4 p.m. was spotted at 745 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour and gusts of 185 kph and moving north northeast at 15 kph.
