MANILA, Philippines – The alert raised over Marikina River Monday has been lifted, the Marikina City’s public information office said.

As of 8 a.m., the water level went down to 14.6 meters with six of eight floodgates still open, the city said in a statement.

Alert level 1 was raised over Marikina River Monday following a southwest monsoon-enhanced downpour in Metro Manila and parts of Luzon, which prompted city officials to open the six floodgates to prevent an overflow.

The heavy rain, which the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said was not directly caused by Typhoon “Jose”, snarled traffic in Metro Manila for most of the day.
