MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon “Jose” (international name: Halong) packed stronger winds as it continued to move west northwest of the Philippines, the state weather bureau said Sunday.
In its latest weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that “Jose” was last spotted at 1,020 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, and recorded maximum sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour and gusts of 230 kph.
The southwest monsoon (Habagat) continues to affect parts of Luzon as rains are expected in Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon. The Ilocos Region and Central Luzon, in particular, will experience monsoon rains that may trigger landslides, Pagasa said. Visayas and Mindanao may also get rainshowers.
