MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon “Jose” (international name “Halong”) intensified as it continued to move west northwest of the Philippines, the state weather bureau said Sunday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 a.m. Bulletin that the typhoon has “gained more strength” and was last located 1,100 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.
The typhoon packed maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 220 kph.
“Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 – 25 mm (millimeter) per hour (heavy – intense) within the 650 km diameter of the Typhoon,” Pagasa said.
However, “Jose” has yet to affect any part of the country, although the southwest monsoon is expected to bring occasional rains over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Ilocos Region, Calabarzon and Mimaropa.
The typhoon is projected to reach 870 kilometers east of Casiguran on Monday morning then 800 kilometers east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan by Tuesday morning.
Pagasa said “Jose” was expected to be at 800 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes by Monday.
