MANILA, Philippines–While a new storm is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Monday or Tuesday, the southwest monsoon continues to bring rains in Luzon and the Visayas Friday.

“The provinces of Zambales and Bataan will have monsoon rains. Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon and the regions of Ilocos, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol and Western Visayas will experience occasional rains,” the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains or thunderstorms, Pagasa added.

Pagasa said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest would prevail throughout the entire archipelago and that the coastal waters would be moderate to rough.

Meanwhile, a tropical storm internationally named Halong was last observed to be 1,740 kilometers east of Central Luzon, Aldczar Aurelio told INQUIRER.net.

It is forecast to enter the PAR by Monday or Tuesday and may follow the track of typhoons Florita, or Inday.

The storm will be locally named Jose when it enters the PAR. Aurelio said, adding that Halong might intensify while it remained over water. It currently packed maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 100 kph.

It is forecast to slowly move west northwest.
