MANILA, Philippines – Militants in Commonwealth Avenue called for the ouster of President Benigno Aquino III for his alleged violations of civilians’ rights, hours before he is set to deliver his penultimate State of the Nation Address.

“We declare our urgency and united call for the ouster of this corrupt, puppet and fascist regime of Noynoy Aquino. Today we mark the end of Aquino’s grand show of deception in connivance with his Liberal Party minions under his so-called Daang Matuwid as we expose his anti-people and anti-poor policies,” said Andrianne Mark Ng of Bangong Alyansang Makabayan Southern Tagalog.

The first batch of protesters arrived near the police blockade along Ever Commonwealth before 9 a.m.  Aquino will deliver his speech at Batasang Pambansa.

Protesters decried the “rampant” human rights violations in communities in the countryside.

Police estimate about 500 protesters while thousands more are expected to join later in the day.

Highlight of the protest is the burning of a 10-foot effigy of Aquino costumed as a puppeteer, mermaid, clown, magician and fortuneteller- each representing an issue haunting the Aquino leadership.
