32 schools near Batasan Complex suspended Monday for Sona

QUEZON CITY, Philippines—Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has ordered the suspension of classes in public and private schools in the vicinity of Batasan Pambansa Complex as a safety measure for Monday’s State of the Nation Address.

The memorandum issued by the mayor said the suspension of classes is. necessary “in view of the closure of major road thoroughfares, traffic rerouting schemes and anticipated mass actions” during the President’s Sona.

Classes are suspended in 20 elementary schools:

Commonwealth Elementary School, President Cory Aquino Elementary School, Doña Juana Elementary School, Holy Spirit Elementary School, Lagro Elementary School,

North Fairview Elementary School, Bagong Silangan Elementary School, Culiat Elementary School, New Era Elementary School, Melencio Castelo Elementary School,

Payatas B Elementary School, Payatas C Elementary School, Payatas B Annex Elementary School, Lupang Pangako Elementary School, San Diego Elementary School,

Fairview Elementary School, Benigno Aquino Elementary School, Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School, West Fairview Elementary School and Old Balara Elementary School.

The class suspension covers 11 high schools:

Commonwealth High School, Batasan Hills National High School, Judge Feliciano Belmonte High School, Holy Spirit National High School, Lagro High School,

North Fairview High School, Bagong Silangan High School, Culiat High School, New Era High School, Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma High School and Balara High School.

Aside from these 31 schools, the Department of Education has also  authorized Balara Elementary School to suspend classes.

The suspension of classes in universities and higher educational institutions shall be subject to the discretion of the Commission on Higher Education or their respective university, college or academic affairs officials, the mayor said.
