3 Abu Sayyaf members killed

MANILA, Philippines—Three Islamic extremists were killed in military intelligence operations in Basilan on Thursday, the military said.

The military launched operations against an Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Sulaiman Ajanti alias Ulay, tagged in ambushes and kidnappings, in Sungkayot village in Ungkya Pukayaan town, reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo said on Friday.

A brief firefight resulted to the death of Ulay and two of his followers.

“These ASG sub-leaders and lawless elements were responsible for the series of ambushes against hapless civilians in 2011 and 2012 resulting to the death of 29 and wounding of 59 rubber tappers/workers of TARBIDC in Tumahubong, Sumisip,” the report said.

The group of Ulay was also responsible for the kidnapping of  social worker Jennelyn Luna in 2013 and abduction of two US nationals in 2012.
