Nancy Binay gets praises for grilling Abad over DAP
MANILA, Philippines–Senator Nancy Binay was overwhelmed Friday by praises she said she has been receiving for asking pointed questions to Budget Secretary Florencio Abad during Thursday’s Senate hearing on the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
Binay said she even got a call from his father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, to congratulate her.
“Marami ho akong natanggap sa text tapos tinawagan ho ako ng ating Vice President, kino-congratulate niya ho ako kasi parang ang dami ring nagtetext sa kanya pinupuri nga daw ho iyong ginawa ko kahapon,” she said in an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
(I received a lot of text then a call from our Vice President congratulating me because many are also texting him supposedly praising me because of what I did yesterday.)
“I think kahit ho yata siya (Vice President) ay nagulat na pwede pala akong magalit kahit na kaunti,” the senator added.

Even her own colleague in the minority bloc, Senator Joseph Victor V. Ejercito, took the social networking site, Twitter, to praise her.
houtout to my colleague in the minority and seatmate, Sen. @nancybinay!” Ejercito posted on his account during the hearing.
But Senator Binay pointed out that even when she was still running for the Senate, she was unfazed by criticisms knowing herself and what she could do for the country.
“Kaya nga ho noong election, noong nangangampanya kaya hindi ho ako masyadong naapektuhan, alam ko naman iyon kakayahan ko at hindi naman ho ako papasok sa isang bagay na hindi ko kayang gampanan,” she said.
(That’s why during the election, the campaign, I was not affected [by criticisms] because I know what I can do and I’ll not get into something that I know I can’t do)
As an opposition member, Senator Binay said she was just doing her role as “fiscalizer.”
