No threats on SONA day, says AFP
MANILA, Philippines—The Armed Forces of the Philippines said its intelligence network has monitored no threats that would disrupt Monday’s State of the Nation Address of President Benigno Aquino III.
Still, Lieutenant Colonel Ramon Zagala on Wednesday said the AFP would keep monitoring the situation.
“There are no threats, none so far,” Zagala said. “But we continue to monitor.”
He added, though, that the AFP would still be on the grounds with the 10,000-strong force of the Philippine National Police.
Upon the request of the National Capital Region Police Office, 300 men from AFP medical teams, K9 teams, and explosive ordnance disposal teams would supplement the police.
“The NCRPO are the lead, we would support them,” Zagala said.
