Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a woman during an entrapment operation on Monday afternoon for impersonating a Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) official and extorting money from two nursing graduates.
When apprehended by members of the NBI Anti-Fraud and Action Division in a fast-food restaurant in Mendiola, Armi Liguid was sporting a hairstyle similar to that of PRC Licensure Office director Amelia Empaynado. She was also dressed in the uniform prescribed for the agency’s employees.
The NBI said that Liguid was arrested after she introduced herself as Empaynado and charged two nursing graduates P50,000 each for a “package deal.”
The sum, Liguid told the nursing graduates, would cover their stay in a dormitory as they were reviewing for the nursing board, their enrollment in a review center and their nursing licenses since they were already assured of passing the nursing board exam.
The applicants, however, became suspicious of Liguid and sought the help of the NBI when they saw a poster showing the real Liguid at the PRC office and realized that she looked nothing like the woman they had been talking to.
According to the NBI, Liguid had been conning nursing board examinees for nearly 10 years. It added that she was arrested for the offense in 2001 and 2002.
