A Quezon City councilor wants Miss Universe 3rd runner-up Shamcey Supsup to be commended for bringing honor to the country with her achievements.
In a resolution, Councilor Raquel Malangen urged her fellow councilors to cite Supsup, who finished fourth place in the 2011 Miss Universe beauty pageant held in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
The city councilor pointed out that the beauty queen’s victory deserved utmost commendation.
“Miss Supsup, embodying the ideals of a [Filipino] woman, gallantly showcased to the world the intelligence, grace, wit and beauty—[the qualities the Filipino] is renowned for,” she said.
Malangen filed the proposed resolution which was included in the city council’s agenda on Monday, right after Supsup’s visit to city hall.
Supsup, a magna cum laude graduate of the University of the Philippines’ College of Architecture, topped last year’s architecture board exams. She paid a visit to Quezon City officials on Monday as part of her victory motorcade.
Malangen praised Supsup for having the rare combination of beauty and brains which brought pride to the country.
A check with the Public Affairs Information and Service Office showed that the city council took up the proposed measure on Monday during its regular session although it was not indicated if it was approved.
