Meralco continues to implement rotating brownouts

/ 11:52 AM July 21, 2014

MANILA, Philippines – The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) continued to implement rotating power outages on Monday, six days since typhoon “Glenda”(international name: Rammasun) struck parts of the Philippines.

“There will be a 2-3 hour rotational brownout due to power supply insufficiency,” Meralco said in a statement.

From 11 a.m. To 2 p.m., the following areas will be affected:

  • Bulacan: Marilao, Meycauayan
  • Cavite: Bacoor, Cavite City, Dasmariñas, General Trias, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario, Trece Martires City
  • Laguna: Liliw
  • Metro Manila: Caloocan City, Malabon, Valenzuela.

Radyo Inquirer 990AM earlier reported that the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) raised red alert over the Luzon power grid because of insufficient energy.

“Glenda’s” strong winds toppled electric poles and downed transmission lines disconnecting many power plants from the grid.

As of 6 a.m. On Monday, Meralco said 95 percent of its franchise area already has power.

“Parts of Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Metro Manila, Quezon and Rizal are still being restored,” it added.

6-hour rotating brownouts hit Metro Manila, nearby provinces anew
