‘Glenda’ weakens, leaves PAR Thursday

MANILA, Philippines—After devastating Metro Manila and parts of Central Luzon, typhoon “Glenda” (international name: Rammasun)  has weakened and was expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Thursday morning, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.

Commuters wait for their ride home Tuesday as the country braced for typhoon Rammasun (local name “Glenda”) which hit Manila the next day. Power outages were reported in various parts of Metro Manila and other provinces on Wednesday. AP

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in an advisory at 2 p.m. that the eye of typhoon “Glenda” was located at 97 kilometers west of Olongapo in Zambales with a maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 170 kilometers per hour.

It was moving northwest toward the West Philippine Sea with a speed of 25 kph, it added.
