Naga City orders evacuation in 3 low-lying villages as threat of flood rises

NAGA CITY, Philippines—City Mayor John Bongat on Tuesday morning directed the forced evacuation of residents in three low-lying areas in this city, which would likely be flooded by heavy rains to be brought by typhoon “Glenda” (Rammasun), which was expected to hit Camarines Sur in the afternoon.

City spokesperson Allen Reondanga, in a text message, said Bongat gave the order as rain has been pouring without letup since Monday afternoon

He said the evacuation order came after certain areas became flooded in Naga City, including villages of Sta. Cruz, Abella and Igualda at the city’s center and near Naga River.

Naga City has many of its 27 barangays around and near Naga River, which may flood over during the typhoon.

Naga City and Camarines Sur, along with other Bicol provinces, were placed by the state weather bureau under public storm signal number 3 due to Glenda.
