Pagasa warns 21 areas of possible storm surge

MANILA, Philippines—As Typhoon “Glenda” gets closer to land, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said storm surges could possibly hit coastal communities across four provinces.

In its advisory in Project Noah, Pagasa said that 21 communities are susceptible to storm surges reaching heights from 2.51 meters to a maximum of three when “Glenda” hits land.

These communities would be found on Samar, Quezon, Sorsogon, and Camarines Sur.

Coastal communities Ragay, and Del Gallego for Camarines Sur; Magallanes in Sorsogon; Catbalogan, Gandara, Santa Margarita, Tarangnan, Calbiga, Motiong, Paranas, Pinabacdao, Villareal, and Zumarraga in Samar; and Guinayangan, Atimonan, Buenavista, Calauag, Gumaca, Narciso, Plaridel, and Quezon in Quezon province.

National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Undersecretary Alexander Pama said residents should always cooperate with the local government units during incidents like a typhoon and a storm surge.
