Police regional offices gear up for ‘Glenda’

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) has prepositioned its personnel and disaster equipment as typhoon ‘Glenda’ (international name: Rammasun) is expected to barrel through some parts of Luzon and Visayas on Tuesday.

In the latest National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) advisory, it said the disaster response teams of police regional offices (PROs) responsible were alerted by the PNP.

The PNP directed the PROs of areas where storm signals are hoisted.

Calabarzon police (PRO-4A) has prepositioned 983 disaster trained personnel and 25 water assets, particularly rubber boats, and other Search and Rescue (SAR) and Retrieval equipment.

PRO‎-4A required its units to provide hourly weather updates and situation reports in coordination with Local Government Units (LGUs) concerned.

‎As for the Mimaropa Police (PRO-4B), the advisory said “all police provincial (offices there) down to their lower units and continuous monitoring the situational status in the area.”

In Bicol Region, PRO-5 placed on standby its 1,576 personnel geared with rescue equipment stationed at all its regional headquarters and municipal stations for deployment.

Bicol PRO’s four six-by-six trucks, 16 ambulances, six forward trucks and 203 other vehicles are also on standby.

Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) PRO, meanwhile, has activated its “Oplan Tulong” as it raised to blue alert its operations center.

Earlier the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its latest weather advisory that “Glenda” is expected to move westward at 24 kph and is set to make landfall over the Albay-Sorsogon area on Tuesday night.
