MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development has prepared food and non-food assistance to augment resources of local government units as Tropical Storm “Glenda” (Rammasun) entered the Philippine area of responsibility.

In a statement, the agency said its field offices in Northern and Central Luzon have prepositioned 78,608 family food packs for immediate distribution to local government units to be affected by the storm.

Social welfare secretary Corazon Soliman said the field offices have prepared 209,875 assorted food items and 101,326 non-food items for distribution.

“Social welfare and development teams at the municipal level are now on field to monitor the extent of the (tropical storm),” she added.

Soliman has directed all concerned field offices to keep on coordinating with local government units to immediately address the needs of the affected families.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has also issued a “blue alert,” which means that half of the personnel of all regional and municipal disaster risk reduction management offices, the regional offices of the civil defense and other government agencies should be at their posts to monitor the situation.
