MANILA, Philippines—The former chief of staff of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile on Friday evening was transferred to another hospital facility from the Taguig-Pateros District hospital.

Lawyer Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Reyes was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City due to chest pains, said Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Inspector Aris Villaester in a televised interview.

Dr. Prudencio Sta. Lucia, the hospital director of Taguig-Pateros District Hospital, said Reyes complained of persistent chest pains and difficulty in breathing.

Anti-anginal medicines or medicines for her heart problem were administered but these “offered no relief,” Sta. Lucia added.

He said an “acute coronary event” was considered thus prompting the transfer of Reyes to the Philippine Heart Center for further evaluation and management.

Villaester said the Taguig-Pateros hospital did not have the facilities to attend to Reyes’ medical needs.

Reyes is facing plunder and graft charges before the Sandiganbayan in connection with the multi-billion pork barrel scam.
