Sen. Binay to Aquino: ‘Let him go, let him go’

MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino’s refusal to accept Budget Secretary Florencio Abad’s resignation has made one senator sing her own version of the popular song “Let it go” from the Disney movie, “Frozen.”

“The decision was not only unfortunate but I think it was a bad one,” Senator Nancy Binay said in a text message to reporters on Friday.

“Sabi nga ni Elsa let him go, let him go,” added Binay, who belongs to the minority bloc in the Senate.

Elsa is one of the characters in the movie adaptation of “The Snow Queen”.

Senator Grace Poe, an administration ally, meanwhile said the President’s decision not to accept the resignation was his “exclusive prerogative.”

” I maintain that what is really important now is Sec. Abad’s explanation to the public of the disbursementsunder DAP and the COA special audit of the same,” Poe said in a separate text message.

DAP is Disbursement Acceleration Program, which was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, while COA stands for the Commission on Audit.

“This is the only way the public can be assured and enlightened how the billions in public money were spent consistent with the government’s claim of good faith,” Poe added.

Abad has been summoned by the Senate committee on finance to attend its hearing on July 21 and explain the DAP.
