Samar provincial board member survives ambush—police
CALBAYOG CITY, Samar, Philippines—A provincial board member survived an ambush staged by still unidentified men in Jiabong town, Samar on Wednesday night, police confirmed Thursday.
Provincial Board Member Alma Uy-Lampasa, a former judge, believed that the attempt on her life was politically motivated.
She told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that she recently had a run-in with a local official against whom she had filed a case before the Office of the President.
Lampasa admitted that she had been receiving death threats since 2013 and was assigned with a security escort.
Police said Lampasa was riding in her Mitsubishi Adventure at 7:28 p.m. on Wednesday when unidentified men fired at her vehicle along the Maharlika Highway at Barangay Jia-an, Jiabong town.
A bullet hit the left window of the vehicle.
Article continues after this advertisementChief Insp. Felipe Tan, the Samar Provincial Police Office head for community relations, said investigation was still ongoing to determine the motive and identity of the perpetrators.

“Friends, I am ok, ALIVE. Ambushed yesterday at Jiabong, Samar . Thanks so much Jiabong police. Everything is with SOCO now” she wrote on her Facebook status.
“I am the luckiest girl in the world right now,” Uy-Lampasa posted in her Facebook page. She also posted photos of the vehicle window with a bullet hole.
