Abu Sayyaf man tagged in high-profile kidnapping cases falls

MANILA, Philippines – Joint security forces arrested Monday in Basilan  a suspected member of the Al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf Group tagged in high-profile kidnapping cases in Mindanao.

Ali Salih alias Abu Ali was arrested by joint police and military teams in Panigayan village in Malamawi Island, Isabela City past 12 midnight, said Captain Franco Suelto of the Army’s First Infantry Division.

Salih was implicated in the Tumahubong and Golden Harvest kidnappings in early 2000.

In March 2000, the militants held a priest and about 50 teachers in Tumahubong village, Sumisip town in the province of Basilan. Four died in the incident.

In June 2001, the ASG took about 15 workers of Golden Harvest plantation in Tairan village of Lantawan town, also in Basilan.
