Activist priest Fr. Robert Reyes has said Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile’s age “should not prevent the government from doing justice.”
“[In] all the years as a young politician, he enjoyed all forms of privileges and favors, and even used and abused his position for many business and personal interests. Finally and even belatedly, his past sins have caught up with him,” Reyes told the Inquirer recently in a text message.
Reyes said holding Enrile in a regular jail would not be so much of a “harsh punishment, considering what he has done or not done in the past six decades, from Marcos to the present.”
“A regular jail will also make him see and experience up close what the small and ordinary [Filipino] goes through,” Reyes said.
Reyes said he was detained at the Quezon City Jail because Enrile and his son brought a libel case against him.
He said Revilla and Estrada should also be held in the city jail.
