MANILA, Philippines – Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.  may consider running for a higher post in 2016 if he becomes “very popular,” Senator Cynthia Villar said on Thursday.

“Lahat naman ng taga-NP pwede naman silang magplano and it will depend naman on what will happen,” Mrs. Villar said during a press conference.

“In our party, wala naman kaming pinasasabihan you can’t do this, you can’t do that.  They are allowed to do what they plan like Senator Marcos, he’s running for re-election (at the minimum). Wala namang masama sa kanya na mangampanya sya kasi running for re-election sya,” she said.

“If in the process he becomes very popular and he can run hindi lang senador, kundi higher office, he’s allowed to do that,” Mrs. Villar added.

Mrs. Villar issued the statement when asked to react to the reported statements of  Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos that  her senator-son was qualified to run for president in 2016.

Asked if  Senator Marcos would be  a strong contender considering his name,  Villar said: “Kami naman basta malakas na kandidato ng NP, masaya kami.”

Mrs.  Villar stressed that Senator Marcos and two other NP members – Senators Alan Peter Cayetano and Antonio Trillanes IV remained their choices in the upcoming elections.

Even her husband may run again for president “if it will be given to him in a silver platter.”

“Sabi nya, if it will be given to him in a silver platter OK,”  Mrs. Villar said  when asked if the former senator would return to politics.

“Hindi ba nakita nyo parang ang destiny ang presidency. Even if you plan for it but  if it’s not yours, it’s not yours.  Yung mga hindi nga nagplano , nagiging presidente. Bakit pa tayo magpa-plano. Kung ibigay sa atin, thank you. Kung hindi e di hindi.”

(You saw it right? Presidency is like destiny. Even if you plan for it but if it’s not yours, it’s not yours. Those who did not plan, became president so why do we have to plan for it?  If it is given to us, thank you. If not, then it’s not)

“Baka makulong pa tayo, ang mga president nakukulong,” Villar  said in jest.
