Cabbie loses taxi, money to thieves

/ 11:03 PM September 19, 2011

A driver lost his taxi cab, earnings and driver’s license to two armed men who posed as passengers in Manila.

Hildegardo Zambrano told the police that the two men took his cab (UVA 157) with the markings “Anner taxi” at gunpoint on Sunday morning. He said that the two men flagged him down at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday and held him up when they reached the corner of Gen. Solano Street in Manila.

They took his earnings amounting to P3,500, his cell phone and driver’s license. They then ordered him to get out of the vehicle before they drove away in the cab. The taxi driver immediately reported the car theft and robbery to the police, which issued a flash alarm for the missing taxi cab.

Police said they were conducting follow-up operations for the identification and arrest of the robbers, as well as the recovery of the stolen vehicle.—Jeannette I. Andrade
